Grand Rapids is a haven for those who embrace the cold and snow of winter – and those who want to escape it. Those who fall firmly in the first category will find plenty of opportunities for outdoor recreation. You can ski, sled, snowboard, snowshoe, fat tire bike and ice fish just minutes from downtown!
Grand Rapids is a great place to celebrate the winter holidays, with annual traditions like the Christmas & Holiday Traditions show at Frederik Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park, The Nutracker by Grand Rapids Ballet and the Christmas Lite Show Drive Thru. It’s also an ideal destination to get all your holiday shopping done, celebrate with friends and family at a restaurant or brewery, and keep the kids (and yourself) entertained over their school break (and beyond).
Our annual World of Winter Festival kicks off January with outdoor art installations, games and special events all over downtown, all the way through early March. February brings Black History Month and Valentine’s Day commemorations. And every day is a an occasion to enjoy wonderful live music, theater and performing arts, and art and culture.
We’ll update this page with specific activities, events and dates as fall draws closer. Check back to plan your winter getaway!
